SPG-4201/BB Faculty Hiring Process

Over the years, PCCEA has heard from many faculty members regarding frustration in the recruitment and hiring of new faculty. There are two most common complaints. One: the desire to go back to being on a Hiring Committee instead of an Advisory Committee, when faculty were allowed to make recommendations instead of just advise. Two: administrative overrides in everything from the position announcement to the actual faculty hire.

For the past three years, the Meet and Confer team has been working with the College on the Faculty Hiring Process to strengthen the role of faculty. Once again, the College has given us permission to assist in modifying the Hiring SPG to make the process run more smoothly. We have modified the timeline, included a step for final review of the position announcement and strengthened procedures for out-of-cycle hires.

Now is your time to comment. View the draft language for the Faculty Hiring Process by clicking here: SPG-4201/BB
