RG-3001/A
I believe the provision for "Pima Standards" is an intelligent and reasonable method for dealing with past certification standards for Full Time Faculty, and welcome this provision.
In regard to the Academic, Developmental, and Occupational categories, I understand the desire to seek simplicity in approach. However, I feel that actual real world practice is more complex, and that we will 'feel' those complexities on the back-end of practice. For instance, at a Community College, I feel there is reason to incorporate the potential for acceptance of professional external certification and in some cases, work experience, within the Academic and Developmental categories as seen in the Occupational category. A good example is the professional and academic field of journalism, for which it is a substantial challenge to qualify working persons in the field. There are likely many other examples. In addition, many school districts offer special certifications for Developmental Categories, such as "Reading Specialist," that I believe should be accounted for in addition to strict collegiate course work.
Finally, under the category of Limited Exemption Renewable every two years, I continue to have concern that this 'catch all' category will, and still is not, being employed equitably by administrators across PCC campuses. The language seems to have been insufficient to create standardization, and may need to be clarified.
I do have a comment/query for you all on this RG 3001 A. The way the second paragraph is written, it seems like all kinds of people should be grandfathered into the new certification system, yet there is all this searching and purging... Am I misconstruing that 2nd paragraph?
